Academy of Finance (AOF)

Academy of Finance
Started in 1995-96, this is our oldest academy.  This three-year program offers students the opportunity to take an enhanced curriculum including a rigorous financial program that provides entrepreneurial, practical business and pecuniary knowledge, challenging coursework and on-the-job experiences. AOF provides students with knowledge of the financial industry and it develops the skills that will prepare students for a successful educational and professional experience beyond high school, in college, and the world of work. Students learn to apply 21st century technology to the business world including how to use social media for entrepreneurship (see AOF Twitter). Students can apply tp participate in paid internships the summer between their junior and senior year.  The skills students learn will allow them to be hired in entry-level positions and help them earn money while going to college.  Students can get involved with decision-making through the Academy of Finance Student Management Teams.

The Academy of Finance (AOF) is part of the National Academy Foundation (NAF) and works closely with LAEP which helps provide mentoring, job shadows and access to Know How to Go.   Additionally, during Fall Semester our seniors take Finance and Accounting classes for credit at University of Southern California taught by professors from USC Marshall School of Business. The Finance Academy focuses on preparing students to enter the fields of business and finance.  Some majors that students may pursue in college are accounting, financial planning, business management, investing and other related fields. The career classes offered are Economics and Banking and Credit to the 10th graders; Accounting 1 and 2 for the 11th graders; Wall Street and International Relations for the 12th graders.
