WELCOME TO SCIENCE & HEALTHYou are enrolled in a one-year course. In the first semester, we will be studying science and using the Life Science textbook and in the second semester, Health, we will be studying health and hygiene, communicable diseases, human reproduction, preventing teen pregnancy, STDs (sexually transmitted diseases), alcohol and drug abuse and their effects, and the structure and function of our organ systems.1st Semester:1. The Nature of Life Science and Preparing to measure and preparing forexperiments.2. Using the microscope to study cells3. Light and Living Things4. Cells: The Basic Units of Life5. The Cell in Action6. Heredity and how genes and traits are transferred and inherited7.Genes & DNA8. Classificaton of Living Things9. Overview of Plant Processes/Introduction of Animals10. Overview of Circulation and Respiration2nd Semester:In the second semester, we will be studying health and using the Teen Health textbook, and covering topics such as:1. Staying Healthy and Good Hygiene2. Structure and function of the human reproductive system3. Alcohol and other drugs and their effects4. Communicable diseases5. Pregnancy and birth6. STDs (Sexually transmitted diseases)7. Overview of human organ systems: circulatory, respiratory, digestive, excretory systems.** Labs and hands-on activities are included with each major section to enhance understanding and application to real-life.**
