Description
In the Yearbook class at Foshay, you will learn the skills needed to produce the Foshay school yearbook. When you are in between yearbook assignments, you will also contribute to a web magazine, The Wolverine.
 
You will learn the web-based yearbook production tool to create your yearbook pages.
You will learn to operate several different types of digital cameras and scanners to produce photographs for the yearbook.
 
To work with your images, you will learn Adobe Photoshop.
 
Second semester, after most of the yearbook is complete, you will learn Power Director in order to make movies of all the events that happen after the last yearbook deadline.  They will be posted on the Foshay website!
 
This class is open to all grade levels and all academies. You do not have to have experience using computers to take this class, but it helps!

Wolverine Assignment #1
Use Microsoft Word to do your assignment. Name the file your name and save it in the zzWolverine01 folder that is located in the Yearbook folder on the Batfiles computer. For full credit, the file must be named correctly, saved in the correct location and meet the requirements below.
 
These are the requirements for each type of assignment:
 
Article - title, 1/2-3/4 page of text, two images (one to go with part one and the other to go with part two)
 
Academy News - 1/2-3/4 page of text and five images
  • text = a few sentences of news from each academy (Health, Tech, Finance, NAI, 9th grade & Military Science)
  • images = one image to represent each academy
College Center News - 1/2-3/4 page of text and two images (one to go with part one and the other to go with part two)
  • text = advice and news for each grade level regarding college planning (future events, what they should be doing now, etc.)
  • interview the College Advisor, Ms. Johnson
High School Office News - 1/2-3/4 page of text and two images (one to go with part one and the other to go with part two)
  • text = advice and news for each grade level regarding high school graduation (future events, what they should be doing now, etc.)
  • interview the high school counselors, Mr. Jabami & Mr. Hooks
Dedications - minimum of 20 dedications & two images; use the dedication form
 
Getting to Know You - 1/2-3/4 page of text and two images
  • text = at least 10 questions & answers (interview the person)
  • images = one photograph of the person and one image that goes with one of the answers he/she gave
Poll/Survey - title, one paragraph of text, one graph from MS Excel (50 surveys minimum) & one image
  • text = describe the question & summarize the results
  • graph = create a graph from your results
  • image = one image that goes wth your survey
Foshay Sports News - 1/2-3/4 page of text & two images (minimum)
  • text = one paragraph with news about each sport going on now (game statistics, player info, future schedule, etc.)
  • images = one that goes with each sport
Artists at Work - 5 scanned pictures & 5 short paragraphs (minimum)
  • scanned pictures = original artwork from 5 different students, scanned
  • text = a few sentences about each artist (name, grade, academy, title of picture, question artist about the picture, etc.)
Poetry Corner - 5 poems & 5 pictures (minimum)
  • poems = original poetry from 5 different students, typed
  • images = one image that goes with each poem
Photo Gallery - 20 pictures & 10 captions (minimum)
  • images = 20 random images of different students (no repeats)
  • captions = at least 10 of the pictures must have captions (funny or informative phrases about the picture or the people in the picture)
News of the World - 1/2-3/4 page of text and two images (minimum)
  • text = short paragraphs summarizing news of the world (local news, world news, local or world sports, entertainment news, etc.)
  • images = at least two of the news items must have images that go with them

Movie #3
 
In pairs, you will create a two-part movie using Power Director.  You may use the Wizard, if you wish.  Expectations are:
  • 2-3 minutes in length
  • content must be the same as what you turned in to me on 2/23/10
  • music (copyright free) must match the length of the movie
  • appropriate title, introduction to part two and credits
  • no images should repeat
  • a maximum of 10 images may be from clip art or the Internet (the rest must be from original photographs or video clips)
  • produce the movie as an .mpeg2
  • save the movie on the Batfiles server in the zzMovie03 folder
  • save the file as the two partners' first names (eg. LisaFred)

Elements you need to consider:
  • theme must be the one you wrote on my list
  • length of 30-60 seconds (penalty for being shorter or longer)
  • no images should repeat
  • music (copyright free) should match the length of the movie
  • up to 5 "clip art" images allowed (penalty if there are more)
  • adjust the title & credits appropriately
  • produce movie as an .mpeg2
  • save movie on the Batfiles server in the zzMovie02 folder

Adobe Photoshop Assignment
 
Create a 5x5 (inches) collage. Use at least 15 photos. Each collage consists of photos you have cut out and layered to fill the entire space.
 
Save it as a .psd file, name it your name and put it in the zzHW_PScollage folder on the Batfiles computer by the end of the period on 7/30/09.
 
Here are the elements you will be graded on:
• the quality of your cut-outs (Did you cut-out ALL of the original background?)
• the number of different photos you used (min. 15)
• the amount of space you filled up in the 5x5 window (no "holes")
 
These are the tools/icons you should use:

Complete a 100-page ladder diagram using Microsoft Excel.  Make sure you include all the following pages, plus 4 of your own:
