- Estela Leon, earned a B.A in Political Science and International Relations from USC and M.A. in Education and Literacy from Cal State LA. I am a native of Los Angeles and a product of the Foshay community. I joined Foshay Learning Center in 1994 upon graduating from USC. AP Government Course Description: This course introduces the political structures and functions of the American system, beginning with an analysis of the early attempts at self-government following the American Revolution and proceeding to such topics as the U.S. Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and landmark Supreme Court decisions. Besides gaining an understanding of the operations of the U.S. Congress, the Presidency, and the federal judiciary, students will be given a solid grounding in the political life of the nation. Political parties, elections, and the role of the media in American society will be given strong emphasis. The course will have significant focus on contemporary political history, including controversial issues such as the ERA, separation of church and state, and affirmative action. In addition to substantial textbook assignments, students will be called upon to read political news analysis on a weekly basis and to report frequently on their reading. A Supreme Court, Federal Policy and an Agency research project is required.
