 Have you ever wondered how the library works? Well here you can read on how our library, and many other libraries around the country, are set up - what all the numbers mean, and how the books are organized on the shelves. We will also show you what our most popular types of books are. Hope you have fun!

The Foshay Library Layout (How our library is set up!)
 
LAYOUT
 
 
The library is divided into three parts: The middle school/high school library, the computer room and the Secret Garden/Elementary Library.
 
 
Organization:
Fiction books are organized alphabetically by the first three letters of the author’s last name.
 
Example: FIC ALL
(Fiction; Allende)
 
Non-fiction books are organized by Dewey Decimal System number from 000-900. Each number represents a subject. Use our “Most Requested” list to find the most popular non-fiction subjects and their “Call Numbers”

• 400.0 Dictionaries and Thesauruses
• 599.97 Wild Animals
• 613.0 Human Development/Puberty

• 796 Sports
• 811 Poetry
• 921 Biographies (first three letters of the subject’s last name)

The Secret Garden/Elementary Library
 
Located next to the Computer Room, the elementary library has the same set up as the middle school/high school library.
