Writing MYP Objectives by Department

Below you will find a list of documents necessary for constructing your department’s MYP Objectives. Please download all documents as needed including;

·      Bloom’s Taxonomy Guide (Use Cognitive Domain for Objectives)

·      Editable Content Objectives (Word files)

·      Content Objectives (PDF Version)

·     IB Program Content Guides (including newly revised Humanities and Language B)

·      Thinking Maps (PDFs)

Phase 1

·      Print and review any files you might need.

·      Share documents with department.

Phase 2

·     With your department, look closely at MYP Interim Objectives (found at the end of the subject guides).

·    Notice that years 1, 3, and 5 are suggested objectives for those years.

·      Find correlations/natural progression between the three years listed.

Phase 3

·      Download the Editable Content Objectives (Word files).

·      Notice that years 2 and 4 are missing objectives.

Phase 4

·      Ensure that each member of your department has a copy of the Bloom’s Taxonomy Guide.

·      Look closely at verbs that describe each of the Cognitive Levels in Bloom’s. You will use these when writing objectives.

Phase 5

·      With your department, use the Editable Content Objectives document to identify the verbs used in writing the year 3 objective for your content. Are these verbs aligned with Bloom’s Taxonomy? What cognitive level of learning do they represent?

·      Using Analysis, Synthesis, or Evaluation only, construct one objective using the corresponding cognitive level verbs to fill in the gap between years 1 and 3. You may use the first objective to do this.

Phase 6

·      With your department, complete all objectives for years 2 and 4 in the Editable Content Objectivesdocument and save the file.

·      Email completed Editable Content Objectives document to Mr. Garza.
