Dear Foshay Family, Serving as the Principal during the 2010 school year has been a very rewarding and exciting experience. We are looking forward to the 2010-2011 school year, and embarking on “A New Beginning.” After many years, we will have all students, teachers and staff at school at the same time on a Single Track Calendar. Under my leadership as Principal during the 2009-2010 school year, the following events have occurred: June 2010 - Foshay’s newly designed restructuring plan for 2010-11 school year has been completed
- “Newsweek” Magazine picks Foshay High School as the 442nd Best High School in the Nation (only 6% of all the public schools in the United States made the list)
- The first Summer Bridge Program for Incoming Foshay Ninth Grade Students was created and implemented.
- Just awarded NASA Partnership and FREE NASA Summer of Innovation (SOI) Enrichment Camps for two four-week sessions for 500+ Foshay students; to be staffed by 20 Foshay teachers and twenty Foshay high school students. We are the only school in California to receive this NASA partnership.
- Principal, Foshay staff and 64 students attended as guests of NASA Administrator Charlie Bolden the NASA Summer of Innovation Kickoff at Jet Propulsion Laboratory in La Canada/Flintridge
- Applied for $50,000 NASA grant for After-School Program to begin implementation in September
- Awarded Computers for Youth Grant for three years to ensure that all incoming sixth graders and their families receive a free home computer and training
- Honored by the Board of Supervisors for the Foshay Robotics Team National Award
- Designated site for Beyond the Bell Middle School Summer Academic Enrichment Camp at Foshay Learning Center June 28-Sept. 10th 8:00 am – 2:00 pm
- Awarded 60 scholarships for “Fatherless Boys” to Tim Brown Football Mentor Mini Camp
- Room 13 participates in the Pasadena Chalk Festival
- Brotherhood Crusade sponsored the GRID program on campus for “at risk” youth
- Reclassification Ceremony and Celebration held for 136 ESL students
May 2010 - The Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) extended an additional two years of accreditation to Foshay Learning Center to June 30, 2012.
- Principal completed Cohort 1 of the High School Master Schedule Seminar
- Room 13 Foshay featured guest at MOCA's Family Art Day
- Fourteen Neigborhood Academic Initiative (NAI) Foshay Seniors received full scholarships to USC
- County of Los Angeles and the Board of Supervisors congratulated Foshay on its First Cultural Community Fair “A Salute to America”
- Selected by the District to enroll in the Middle School College Board Program “Springboard” to increase passage rate of Minority Students on AP tests
- Received two new first time grants from USC “Connecting Literature to Life” and Art grant in addition to Mission Science, Debate, Journalism, Law and Justice USC grants
April 2009 - The Principal accompanied the Foshay Robotics Team to the FIRST International Robotics Competition in Atlanta, Georgia where the Regional Championship team won its first National Award
- Assembly held for Vince Womack, the Band Teacher, who won the Mr. Hollands’ Opus Award
- First Broadway Musical Revue “Brand New Day” held in the soon to be renovated Foshay auditorium
- Five administrators and 40 Foshay Faculty Members received Saturday IB Training
- Junior MESA Competition (Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement) wins awards
- Submitted a State Department Global Connections and Exchange Program Grant to extend sister site program to two additional international school sites (in addition to South Africa) and to fund teacher and student international exchanges
- Foshay Instrumental Music Program received $35,000 in musical instruments from Fidelity Federal
March 2009 - Designed and implemented the First Foshay Senior Credit and Grade Recovery Program for Foshay Seniors and their parents during CST testing week
December 2009 - Professional Development conducted with Parker Hudnut, Executive Director, Innovation and Charter Schools
November 2009 - A formal Memorandum of Understanding between Foshay Learning Center and Oude Molen Academy of Science and Technology, a school from South Africa, launched in a live broadcast produced by SMART Technologies and the NetGeneration of Youth, where both schools were able to watch the signing of the MOU by both school principals agreeing to the three year global partnership.
October 2009 - Began dialogue with District Personnel and Faculty regarding Foshay Restructuring Plan for 2010-11 to include RTI2
- Implementation of MIND Research Grant for both Elementary School and Middle School Math Technology
- Met API in the Middle School and exceeded API in elementary and high school
