INTRODUCTION

The Foshay Learning Center Counseling program is designed to assist youth of diverse backgrounds in identifying interests, investigating career and post-secondary options, and helping students to reach personal goals through consistent guidance and planning.  Foshay counselors believe that to succeed in life, students must be equipped with academic, career, and personal/social skills.  Counseling services are concerned with educating the whole student through the enhancement of self-understanding, responsibility, decision-making skills, and the development of a core set of values so students are equipped to lead a healthy, productive life.  Features of the Counseling Program include:

  • Individual Counseling & Guidance
  • Prevention and Support Groups
  • Classroom Guidance
  • Parent Conferences
  • College Counseling
  • School Staff Conferences
  • High School Program Planning
  • Crisis Intervention
  • College Advising and Recommendations
  • Referrals – Outside Agencies

All members of the Foshay Learning Center Counseling Department Team collaborate with each other and with school staff to deliver student services in response to the needs of the student population.  We allocate resources to gather, analyze and evaluate data, develop and maintain records, and implement a program of prevention, intervention and crisis preparedness for the Foshay community.  We develop objectives and implement our plan through a program of classroom and group guidance, organized delivery of information, community partnerships, systematic individual planning activities, a range of responsive counseling services and crisis training.
